Acupuncturist

Permanent, part-time 22.5 hours worked over 3 days

Role Summary

You will be responsible for providing acupuncture to support clients undergoing rehabilitation to help support with pain management, sleep, anxiety and promote physical and emotional wellbeing.

Specific Responsibilities

  • To work with and support an inter-disciplinary team of nurses, rehabilitation assistants, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists and occupational therapists delivering care and rehabilitation. 
  • Provide acupuncture within their individual sphere of competency, to meet patient needs and in line with professional, procedures and guidelines communicating sensitive condition related information in an empathetic and reassuring way. 
  • Work as part of a complementary therapy team to assess patient needs and in partnership with the patient devise a treatment plan to meet those needs.
  • Inform patients, carers’ and staff about the benefits and side effects of acupuncture as appropriate
  • Monitor and review the effectiveness of the therapy given and modify as necessary
  • To work autonomously with support available from a senior therapist as required.
  • Identifying any additional support needs and refer to other health specialist as required.
  • To maintain accurate and contemporaneous documentation according to STEPS standards including clinical notes and reports.
  • To complete and update clients reports where required within a timely manner. 
  • To apply manual handling principles as outlined by legislation and department procedures.
  • To provide supervision, support and guidance to other members of the interdisciplinary team, including Wellbeing Assistants and Rehabilitation Assistants. 
  • To contribute to service development initiatives and promote high quality care for clients at all times.
  • To escalate issues as required following STEPS guidance and operating procedures.
  • To be compliant with the clinical governance requirements operating within STEPS procedures.
  • To participate in clinical audits and research as and when directed by a supervising therapist. 
  • To assist in carrying out procedures relating to the personal care and nutritional needs of clients and assist in dealing with emergencies as required.
  • To be flexible and able to offer support to other clinical areas as required.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Degree in Acupuncture / BAAC Certified
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience
  • Experience of working with people with care and/or rehabilitation needs (paid or voluntary)
  • Competent user of a range of IT software packages and ability to learn new systems quickly
  • To be able to deliver care in a way which is positive, engaging, respectful, and mindful of client dignity at all times
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and a dynamic approach
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbal / demonstrate excellent listening skills
  • Able to form key working relationships with colleagues, understand the dynamics of interdisciplinary working

Desirable

  • Safeguarding Level 2 / 3 training
  • Care Certificate
  • First Aid Training
  • Experience working with people with complex care needs 
  • Experience communicating with people with complex communication needs and ability to adapt accordingly  
  • Client record/note keeping experience  
  • Understanding of CQC (Care Quality Commission) Regulations, the Health and Social Care Act  
  • Experience of working to clinical procedures and processes  
  • Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of the Data Protection Act, Client Confidentiality, Equality and Diversity, and Safeguarding 
  • Delivering basic first aid
