Essex motocross racer runs 5km parkrun despite crash - BBC News
Brendan Corr, a father of two and business owner from Essex, sustained multiple life-changing injuries in October 2024 while practicing on a motocross track ahead of a race. The accident left him in a critical condition with an incomplete spinal cord injury, multiple fractures, and internal injuries.
When he arrived at STEPS Rehabilitation in February 2025 to undergo specialist spinal injury residential rehabilitation for his injuries, Brendan was using a powered wheelchair and required full assistance and nursing support for all his daily needs. With very little functional movement in his arms and unable to walk, Brendan had been told to “accept his condition” by previous facilities. Determined to defy his medical prognosis, Brendan approached his rehabilitation with determination and purpose.
Through a combination of intensive therapies, expert support, and the use of world-leading rehabilitation technology, including the Myomo® MyoPro Mark 2, Brendan has made extraordinary progress. Just nine months after his accident, he is now able to walk independently. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he set himself the goal of completing a Parkrun and trained rigorously with the support of the team at STEPS Rehabilitation.
Brendan was cheered over the finish line by a team of enthusiastic supporters.
As well as the Parkrun, he has regained the ability to walk his beloved Springer Spaniel, Fergus, and is now working towards his next goal - cooking a meal for his family again.
Stay tuned for more on Brendan’s remarkable story….
