South Yorkshire is eight weeks away from having its very own NEUROLOGICAL AND COMPLEX TRAUMA REHABILITATION CENTRE right in the heart of Sheffield, delivering intensive therapy to people from the age of 18 who have survived a stroke or brain, spinal or complex trauma injuries. Over the last 10 months, STEPS Rehabilitation Ltd has been creating a state-of-the-art facility on part of the site of the former Jacobs Manufacturing Company premises on Troutbeck Road, off Abbeydale Road South. Up to now, clients have had to move outside Sheffield, often miles away from their family and support network, to receive the care and rehabilitation they need.
The purpose-built development, which offers 23 ensuite bedrooms, a rehabilitation gym, a stainless steel hydrotherapy pool and a café, will employ over 100 people and has been supported by a substantial grant from the Regional Growth Fund (RGF), administered by Sheffield City Council. David Grey, MBE and Chair of the Sheffield City Region SCR Local Enterprise Partnership LEP RGF Investment Panel at the Council said: "STEPS has the potential to become the prime facility for patients requiring the latest neurological rehabilitation care to achieve the highest level of recovery”
STEPS is building a truly collaborative team of top consultants with the very best nurses, therapists and catering staff. “We are excited at the prospect of a dynamic multidisciplinary team working in a state-of-the-art facility to achieve the best possible rehabilitation outcomes for our patients”, said Sachin Watve and Dr Bronwen Davies, both STEPS Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine.
STEPS is joining with Hallam and Sheffield Universities on Research and Development and will be working closely with THE STROKE ASSOCIATION, HEADWAY, and other key charities to make a real difference to outcomes, not only for STEPS patients but for a wider group who will benefit from this joint research.
Ray Boulger, Chairman of STEPS, said: “We know that if we harness clients’ individual drive and desire and add our commitment and care, we will achieve optimal results. We can offer patients the tools with which to push their own recovery to its pinnacle”
