Senior Rehabilitation Care Assistant

Salary: £26,800 + enhancements

37.5 hours per week, flexible shifts including days and nights between 6 and 12 hours

This is a managerial position, and the Senior Rehabilitation Assistant (SRA) will be responsible for overseeing the Rehabilitation Assistants (RAs) working on their floors under the guidance of the Senior RA Coordinator and Nurse in charge. The SRA will be a role model to more junior members of the team and lead by example, coaching RA’s to develop their confidence and skills.

The SRA will also continue to work operationally within our inter-disciplinary team providing high-quality holistic care support to STEPS clients, who have complex care and rehabilitation needs. They will provide support throughout their rehabilitation journey in a way that is aligned with STEPS values and behaviours through working as a key member of the inter-disciplinary team.


CARING FOR OUR CLIENTS:

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting supervisions and appraisals with a small team of RA’s.
  • Be a champion for the STEPS values and standards in monitoring and actioning issues of poor conduct or behaviour to ensure standards are upheld, including timekeeping, uniform and misconduct, reporting on these as appropriate to the People & Culture team.
  • Proactively, when needed, provide instruction, support and guidance to RA’s within their roles, acting as a point of escalation when needed.

  • To ensure the allocation of RA’s to residential clients is completed the morning after handover with guidance from the Nurse on shift.
  • To work in collaboration with the nursing team to coordinate each shift
  • Ensure that the RA team on the floor you are working on are working in the location they are supposed to be during their shift and completing the tasks they are supposed to be
  • To undertake individual rehabilitation plans for our clients providing suitable feedback via the Nurses to members of the interdisciplinary team
  • To prepare and attend IDT meetings when allocated and share information with the IDT regarding clients
  • To involve clients and carers in the development and delivery of goals within the care plan
  • To provide support and guidance to other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • To escalate issues as required following STEPS guidance and operating procedures for example, in relation to potential safeguarding issues or regarding the conduct of any colleagues
  • To be compliant with clinical governance requirements operating within STEPS procedures
  • To be involved in clinical audits
  • Carrying out all procedures relating to personal care and nutrition of clients
  • To keep cupboards stacked and tidy with all items needed for client care throughout the day and night
  • To keep client rooms tidy and organised as specified by the client, ensuring it remains set up in the best way possible to allow for maximum independence
  • To escalate any feedback from clients and take appropriate action by informing the Senior RA Coordinator/Nurse on duty or Client Liaison Coordinator as appropriate
  • To undertake duties and responsibilities as assigned in the work plan
  • When on nights, monitor clients sleep and feedback to the Nursing Team for IDT
  • Regularly check MS Teams and MS Outlook for emails or messages, acknowledging and responding to messages in a timely manner.
  • Encourage RA’s to remain up to date with their emails and ensure they are aware of any important updates.
  • Complete and sign the daily and nightly jobs list.
  • Communicate with those working on the other floor to ensure there is open communication, especially if there is no Senior RA on duty on that floor.

  • To be responsible for day-to-day workload allocation, interacting with the STEPS team as appropriate.
  • To be responsible for the management of the RA team with regard to their day to day work but also addressing issues around conduct, capability and sickness.
  • Identify training and development needs within your allocated team of RA’s through daily work, supervision and appraisal, reporting these to the Learning and Support Manager and the People & Culture team.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QualificationsNVQ 2 / City & Guilds qualification, completed care certificate or equivalent level of qualification in the provision of personal care/health care worker/rehabilitation.  NVQ 3 qualification.

Safeguarding Level 2 / 3 training.

Experience3 years experience working within a rehabilitation or care setting with a year being in a position where you have held more responsibilities, for example as a team leader.  

Working with people with complex care needs.  

Competent user of a range of IT software packages and ability to learn new systems quickly.  

Experience of working within governance frameworks e.g., clinical systems/data management/complaints untoward incidents.

Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of GDPR, Client Confidentiality, Equality and Diversity, and Safeguarding.  
Understanding of CQC Regulations, the Health and Social Care Act.

Experience working with clinical procedures and processes.

Experience in people management and associated processes that come with this, i.e. conducting supervision, appraisal or other meetings.    

Delivering group rehabilitation sessions/activities.  

Delivering basic first aid.  

Fire safety training/warden experience.  

Experience working in the private sector
