We are delighted to announce that we have won “Rehabilitation Provider of the Year” at the prestigious Personal Injury Awards 2021. This is the third time that STEPS has won this award in the last four years, which recognises the positive impact that our work is having on those who have sustained serious injuries.
The Judges at the national awards said they were “…thrilled with their ultimate decision, because they get to recognise the innovation and talent at the very heart of STEPS, which they believe is an example to follow.”
Undeterred by the significant operational difficulties arising because of the pandemic, over the past 12 months STEPS, has further evolved it’s rehabilitation services, which includes several ground-breaking initiatives.
Already known for their holistic approach to rehabilitation care for people recovering from complex trauma, brain and spinal cord injury, the pioneering facility has been rubbing shoulders with tech innovators in Singapore and Switzerland to become the first place in the UK to provide clients with access to the latest in world-class robotic and VR technology.
In May 2021, STEPS opened the first UK Fourier Intelligence RehabHub, and is now also home to one of only three UK facilities (and only facility in the North) to offer clients access to the revolutionary MindPod Dolphin (developed using Pixar technology), an immersive medical gaming and therapy software for adult patients involving an animated dolphin and other sea creatures.
As well as bringing this pioneering technology to their clients, STEPS has also partnered with the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University to develop clinical trials and research projects around the use of technology.
They’ve also launched STEPS Training School, that teaches new care teams about a client’s condition and care regime to ensure a smooth transition home when they leave STEPS.
STEPS Rehabilitation opened its doors in Sheffield in 2017 and now employs a team of 140 people. Further expansion is planned for 2022 that will further enhance its unique offering to clients.
Speaking of their success at the awards ceremony, Founder & Business Development Director, Jules Leahy said, “We are delighted to be recognised once again at the Personal Injury Awards, particularly in such a competitive category. Our ethos is to create a unique rehabilitation environment that not only uses the very latest in rehabilitation knowledge and technology but also in a non-clinical and 'home from home' environment. Our continued success is a testament to our dedicated, expert team who go above and beyond every day to make such a difference to our clients and their families.”
