2022 has been an incredible year for us all at STEPS Rehabilitation, from celebrating our 5th birthday, welcoming exciting new partnerships, improvements to the facility and award wins.

In this short article, we look back on the last 12 months at STEPS Rehabilitation.

We turned 5!

In May, we celebrated our 5th anniversary. It was wonderful to share the day with clients, colleagues and friends. We are proud to now employ over 171 people and have some exciting expansion plans for 2023, enhancing our unique offering to clients.

Take a look at our birthday video here.

Reimagining Rehabilitation

We’re always looking for new and innovative ways that we can support our clients' journeys at STEPS Rehabilitation and 2022 has seen the arrival of new technology and approaches to support this vision.

At the start of the year, we launched the STEPS Training School, an innovative programme, delivered by our expert team to ensure clients can transition home with a trained home care team following their discharge from STEPS.

By providing intensive training tailored to the client’s needs, we can ensure a smooth transition home, and clients can be confident that they will continue to receive a bespoke programme of care and rehabilitation once they are home.

2022 has seen us expand our suite of innovative rehabilitation technology with the WINBACK G-Move suit and the Brain Recovery Zone.

WINBACK G-Move Suit

Developed by WINBACK UK & Ireland, this wearable technology uses ‘Pressotherapy’ to apply compression to the lower limbs and can reduce muscle soreness and increase circulation. STEPS are using this innovative technology to support intensive rehabilitation for clients recovering from incomplete spinal cord injuries, brain injuries and stroke.

Brain Recovery Zone

This immersive virtual reality recovery platform offers a safe virtual space for people to practice habits that aid recovery.

Partnerships

2022 saw a number of new partnerships with world leading companies, including MindMaze, Thor Assistive Technology and Fourier Intelligence.

In July we signed a  Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Fourier Intelligence, with this partnership aiming to establish collaboration to advance the knowledge and promotion of advanced rehabilitation and robotics to benefit the lives of clients in need of these services.

Amputee Rehabilitation

We were delighted to partner with STEPS Prosthetics, a specialist prosthetics and orthotics company, based in Sheffield, that combines science, craftmanship to deliver bespoke, cutting-edge prosthetic and orthotic solutions for individuals living with life-changing injuries.

This partnership enables us to deliver an enhanced service to amputee clients, which includes intensive residential rehabilitation programme and on-site workshop, meaning clients benefit from the swift provision of their prosthetic or orthotic device, whilst receiving daily therapy sessions to maximise their mobility, independence and general well-being.

Awards

We have been delighted to be recognised at a number of awards this year, including the British Business Awards, CMSUK Awards and the Claims Media Personal Injury Awards, which we were delighted to win for the fourth time in five years. This prestigious industry award recognises the positive impact that our work is having on those who sustain catastrophic injuries.

Conferences

The STEPS team have been involved with a number of conferences in 2022 throughout the UK and in Europe. Following the signing of the MOU with Fourier Intelligence, Toria Chan joined members of their team in Rotterdam for Rehab Week 2022, an event that brings together different conferences in the field of rehabilitation technology in order to foster cross disciplinary communications between the designers of technology and the clinicians using it with individuals to enable advancements of rehab technology.

In September we jointly presented The Silver Trauma Conference with Slater and Gordon solicitors which explored clinical and legal issues for clients following major trauma with relevance to those working with people over 50.

Improving STEPS Rehabilitation

We’re always looking for ways to improve STEPS Rehabilitation and 2022 has seen a number of refurbishment projects throughout the facility, including new nurses' stations, a bigger and more functional reception area and an upgraded kitchen, café space, focusing on increased menu choices, and improved client service.

12 Days of Christmas

In November, staff, clients, friends, family and pets (!) came together to film our 2022 Christmas Video, the 12 days of Christmas, which launched on 1st December.

The video is filmed in and around the facility, and was a real team effort, full of joy and laughter. We hope you enjoy it!

We would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support, and our team for their dedication to providing the very best rehabilitation for our clients.

We’re looking forward to all that 2023 has to bring!

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
