We were delighted to welcome the Strolll® team to STEPS Rehabilitation on 11th November for a hands-on training session with our specialists. The team provided in-depth guidance on the Strolll® AR system, allowing our clinicians to explore its full range of capabilities and learn best practices for integrating this technology into our rehabilitation programmes.
This training session reinforced our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge tools to enhance client outcomes. Through interactive exercises, our team gained valuable experience in tailoring Strolll®’s therapeutic activities, like exercise games and cueing strategies for a range of client needs. This ensures our therapists are fully equipped to deliver personalised, impactful rehabilitation sessions, enhancing both the physical and psychological wellbeing of our clients.
Following this training, we’re more excited than ever to offer Strolll® as part of our STEPS RehabHub, bringing the latest technological advancements in AR-based therapy to those on their recovery journey.
What is Strolll?
Unlike virtual reality (VR), which immerses users in a fully digital environment, Strolll® harnesses augmented reality to seamlessly integrate digital elements with the physical world. The transparent, lenses of the AR glasses allow the real world to remain visible to users, while enabling clinicians to deliver immersive, impactful therapy in ways previously unimaginable.
Linked AR headsets allow two people to share the same augmented view, enabling them to see the same virtual objects and interact with the environment together. For brain injury rehab, this can be beneficial as it facilitates guided exercises, enhances social interaction, and provides real-time feedback.
Tailored Rehabilitation
STEPS Rehabilitation is the second inpatient centre in the UK to utilise Strolll’s® technology, we’re excited to be at the forefront of this innovative approach and offer unparalleled flexibility for our clients and their rehabilitation.
Whether utilised in a clinical setting or at home, this cutting-edge solution adapts to the unique needs of each client, supporting both synchronous and asynchronous therapy sessions. At the heart of Strolll® is Reality DTx®, a core software that can be integrated into rehabilitation programmes, enhancing client outcomes.
Engaging Therapeutic Activities
Strolll® provides two distinct therapeutic activities: exercise games and cueing strategies. The AR technology enables clients to remain aware of their surroundings while engaging with fun and interactive games projected into their real-world space. With rehabilitation at the heart of every game, Strolll® makes repetitive tasks more enjoyable, motivating users to complete more repetitions and therefore enabling them to reach their rehab goals.
Therapists can prescribe the appropriate games and dosage for each individual, tailoring the experience to their specific rehabilitation needs. For clients with conditions such as Parkinson’s, Strolll® offers the ability to trial different cueing strategies (techniques that help people to walk). This supports them in learning how to use these strategies effectively, improving mobility and confidence in daily activities.
Key Benefits
This user-friendly technology prioritises safer mobility and improves daily functioning. Strolll® is specifically designed to enhance walking, balance, and reduce the risk of falls.
Clients who have already used Strolll® as part of their rehabilitation have reported increased confidence in daily activities, greater independence, and a sustained improvement in their quality of life.
Objective Data and Monitoring
Reality DTx® captures clinically relevant, objective data, providing valuable feedback and analytics to assess progress and tailor therapies to each client’s performance. This data-driven approach enhances remote monitoring and significantly reduces administrative tasks by auto-populating clinician notes, allowing therapists to focus more on direct client care.
The insightful analytics enable therapists to track client progress and adjust future sessions, ensuring that rehabilitation programmes are customised to meet each client’s specific goals and effectively monitor their advancement.
Versatile and Accessible Technology
At STEPS Rehabilitation, we have invested in leading AR devices to accommodate the diverse needs of our clients. Including Magic Leap headsets, these headsets also offers versatility for individuals who wear glasses as they have magnetic lenses that allow people who wear prescription glasses to still use them.
Strolll® empowers therapists to deliver personalised rehabilitation with a wide range of games and functional exercises. These can be easily customised and dynamically adjusted, ensuring that each patient's therapy is uniquely tailored to their rehabilitation journey.
The hands-free technology allows therapists to engage in hands-on care while the system automatically captures and analyses crucial data, such as repetition time, speed, and total repetitions. The platform not only enhances patient engagement and outcomes but also allows us to scale our services efficiently, delivering up to seven times more treatment.
Our team at STEPS has undergone comprehensive training on the software from the Strolll® team and is now incorporating it into clients' rehabilitation programmes.
We were delighted to showcase Strolll®, along with other devices and equipment from the RehabHub, at our Amputee Conference in October. This provided delegates with the opportunity to witness first-hand how we are integrating world-leading technology into our clients' rehabilitation programmes.
Through their Clinical Success Manager, Emma-Jayne Russell, Strolll® and STEPS will continue to work closely to ensure we’re maximising the potential of this innovate technology. Through this relationship we can provide client feedback to Strolll®, helping continually improve their experience when using the headsets.
Testimonials
"I trialled the Strolll VR headset with Sian. It was very fun to use and easy to play once set up. It was good for balance techniques and challenging sit to standing to sitting. It feels immersive. I really enjoyed the basketball because I’m not able to do it in person without my wheelchair. Rating out of 10 is definitely a 10." - 28-year-old SCI client at STEPS
“STEPS is an outstanding clinic with a dedicated team who are truly committed to rehabilitation and client support. The staff are not only friendly and kind but also embrace new technologies with enthusiasm. They have consistently been at the forefront of innovation, quickly integrating cutting-edge solutions to enhance their services. We are thrilled to be partnering with Steps and look forward to supporting their journey in embedding Strolll’s technology, helping clients achieve remarkable outcomes in their rehabilitation goals.” - Emma-Jayne Russell, Clinical Success Manager, Strolll
"I have used the VR head set for several sessions now and have been completely impressed by its user-friendly nature, the clarity of the VR images and consequently, how accessible this is for all users. The VR headset allows an immersive experience for both the client's and staff, allowing alternative treatment and assessment approaches to achieve desired outcomes.
Clients have expressed how enjoyable it is to be able to access games they may not be able to in their own reality and so it not only provides physical therapeutic benefits but emotional and psychological benefits. The VR headsets are comfortable to wear and have resulted in minimal vestibular disturbance, again increasing how accessible this is. Overall, the headsets have been a great addition to our technological rehabilitation hub and will be of a great benefit to appropriate clients." - Sian Jones, Senior Physiotherapist, STEPS
