STEPS Rehabilitation has been featured in Monarchy and Democracy: A History of Leadership, a commemorative publication produced by The History of Parliament and St James’s House, which was officially launched on 9th June at Westminster Abbey.

The publication explores a century of monarchy and democracy, examining the enduring relationship between the Crown, Parliament and the Commonwealth. A select group of organisations were invited to contribute, recognised for their leadership, innovation and impact within their respective fields.

As a patron of the publication, STEPS Rehabilitation was invited to the official book launch, which was attended by founders Jules Shiel-Boulger and Toria Chan. The invitation-only gathering brought together Members of the House of Commons and House of Lords, senior government officials, academics, business leaders, diplomats and representatives from across the Commonwealth.

The feature highlights STEPS’ journey since its founding in 2017 and its pioneering approach to specialist rehabilitation. At a time when rehabilitation services were often focused on single conditions, STEPS set out to provide a more holistic model of care for people living with complex injuries, including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and limb loss.

Since opening its doors, STEPS has supported more than 500 individuals through their rehabilitation journey, helping the majority to return home following treatment. The publication recognises the centre's interdisciplinary approach, which combines therapies such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and psychological therapies with complementary therapies tailored to each individual's needs.

The feature also reflects on the strong sense of community that has become a defining part of the STEPS experience. Clients benefit not only from expert clinical support, purpose built facilities and rehabilitation technology, but also from a network of peers and former clients who continue to inspire and encourage one another long after discharge.

Commenting on the inclusion, Jules Shiel-Boulger said: “It is a real honour for STEPS Rehabilitation to be featured in this publication alongside so many respected organisations. The recognition reflects the dedication of our entire team, our commitment to continually finding better ways to support people with complex rehabilitation needs, and the inspiration we draw every day from our clients. To attend the launch at Westminster Abbey and see our story included as part of this celebration of leadership and innovation was incredibly special.”

The publication will be distributed to political, educational and institutional audiences across the UK and Commonwealth, highlighting organisations that have demonstrated leadership, innovation and lasting societal impact. STEPS also has a copy of the book available for clients, families and visitors to view and read at the centre.
