As we look back over an exceptional year at STEPS Rehabilitation, we are proud to celebrate the developments that have enhanced our services and facilities, expanded our clinical capabilities, and showcased the remarkable achievements of our clients and team.
From welcoming new rehabilitation technologies into our facilityand contributing to international conferences, to award wins and improved facilities for clients and families, 2025 has been a year of progress, collaboration and innovation in rehabilitation.

Client Successes & Inspiring Achievements
We began the year on a high in January, with STEPS entering its first team into the WheelPower Inter Spinal Unit Games for the first time. Four clients, Graham, Josh, Vanessa and Liam, travelled to Stoke Mandeville Stadium supported by members of the STEPS team.
Competing across a full programme of adaptive sports, the team achieved outstanding results, including podium finishes in swimming and table tennis, all while demonstrating resilience, confidence and sportsmanship. The event also opened new opportunities, with several participants now exploring adaptive sports training as an ongoing activity.

Awards, Recognition & National Achievement
2025 saw STEPS recognised both locally and nationally for excellence in healthcare, leadership and impact.
• Tide Everywoman Entrepreneur Awards – Woman of the Year 2025
Founders Jules Shiel-Boulger and Toria Chan were named winners of this prestigious national award, acknowledging their leadership and commitment to transforming neurorehabilitation in the UK.
On accepting their award, Toria said: "We are incredibly shocked we have won this. There have been so many amazing people who have supported us on this journey. We had a really strong vision but without people believing in us and getting behind us, we would not be here today. The thing that got us through the early days of the business was the people that were at STEPS having rehabilitation and seeing them eat for the first time or start to walk again.”
• Sheffield Cares Excellence Awards 2025
Winner: Zoe Johnson – Nurse Associate
Runner-Up: Team of the Year – STEPS Rehabilitation
Certificate of Recognition: Jules Shiel-Boulger, Toria Chan & Ray Boulger
• Yorkshire Post Business Awards 2025
STEPS was shortlisted for Best Family Business, recognising sustainable growth, patient-centred values and our role as a regional leader in specialist rehabilitation.
We are immensely proud of our team, whose dedication ensures that every client receives the very best in rehabilitation.

Innovation in Technology & Research Leadership
STEPS remains committed to clinical innovation, ensuring STEPS continues to offer the latest in rehabilitation technology.
This year, we introduced:
• MyoPro Mark 2 – first device in the UK & Europe
A significant leap in EMG-driven upper limb orthosis technology, enabling greater function and independence in everyday tasks.
• EGZOTech Meissa OT
Senior Physiotherapist Joe Nourse became the first UK physiotherapist to be trained in its use, enhancing upper limb therapy through EMG + FES-assisted movement.
• Bioness L300 Go
Supporting gait rehabilitation and foot drop management through functional electrical stimulation and intelligent motion detection.

Sharing Expertise on the Global Stage
Members of our clinical team were invited to contribute at international conferences, strengthening STEPS’ position as a centre of expertise:
• RehabWeek 2025 – Chicago
STEPS delivered a workshop and presented case-based outcomes on integrating lower limb rehabilitation technology in complex trauma rehabilitation, supported by global technology partners.
• Malaysia – ArmMotus EMU workshop
Specialist Occupational Therapist Tayla Brons was invited to Kuala Lumpur to train clinicians in the use of Fourier Rehab technology, an inspiring example of knowledge sharing and international collaboration.

Improvements to STEPS Rehabilitation
Creating a warm, safe and supportive environment for clients and their loved ones is central to everything we do. This year, we made significant improvements across our site:
• 16 Troutbeck Road – New Family Accommodation
At the beginning of the year, we launched our beautifully refurbished property at 16 Troutbeck Road. This three-bedroom house, within walking distance of STEPS, is available for families to rent, helping them remain close during residential rehabilitation.
Further upgrades to our site included:
• Refurbished client bedrooms with enhanced en-suites
• Interior design enhancements to create a calming, homely atmosphere

STEPS Turns 8
In the summer, we celebrated eight years of STEPS Rehabilitation. Clients, families and the team joined together for an afternoon of fun, food and festivity, soundtracked by the return of Sheffield’s finest steel drum band.

Partnership & Community Engagement
This year, we were announced as Regional Garden Partner for Horatio’s Garden, Sheffield & East, and were honoured to attend the official opening with one of our clients, an event also attended by HRH The Princess Royal. Members of the STEPS team have since volunteered time to support the development of the garden, helping to create a space that will benefit many patients and families for years to come.
Looking Ahead to 2026
We’re looking forward to 2026 and all that the new year will bring, as always, we remain committed to supporting and championing our clients.
Thank you to our clients, families, partners, referrers and supporters for being part of a remarkable year. We look forward to building on this success, continuing to push boundaries, and helping even more individuals rebuild their lives after life changing injury.
