Alex had his eyes opened to great food from a very young age as his dad was an aspiring self-taught chef. With great food in his blood, Alex decided to take up a career in the catering industry by attending Sheffield College studying catering and hospitality for 3 years, whilst earning industry experience at restaurants, cafes and award-winning pub/restaurants at the weekends.

Alex then worked in a well-known 4-star hotel with restaurant and banqueting facilities in Sheffield where he quickly moved through the ranks in the kitchen. He then was offered an opportunity to work in an award-winning pub/restaurant in Derbyshire which appeared in the Michelin guide, where he learnt lots about modern cookery techniques.

Alex was then approached to work in the top private hospital in Sheffield as Sous chef. This is where he was given the opportunity to help to improve the catering standards throughout the hospital and helped reach the goal of an “outstanding” score with the CQC. At this point in his career Alex was given the chance to improve his management and leadership skills as he attended a 10-month long course in London.

Alex joined STEPS in his first Head Chef role and he enjoys being a big part of the client’s rehabilitation.

Outside of work Alex likes to go on long walks with his partner and their dog, he also loves hosting summer BBQ’s for his friends and family.

Fun fact: Alex is a qualified Day Skipper and loves to go sailing in the Ionian Islands of Greece
