Joanne is a highly experienced Speech and Language Therapist with extensive experience in neurorehabilitation. She has worked as a speech and language therapist since 2010 gaining experience across a range of inpatient and community settings in London, including an acute teaching hospital, a regional neurosciences centre, an inpatient neurorehabilitation unit, and community neurological rehabilitation services. This breadth of experience has enabled her to develop strong clinical expertise in the assessment and management of complex communication disorders and severe dysphagia secondary to both acquired and progressive neurological conditions. Joanne is experienced in the assessment and management of aphasia, cognitive communication disorders, motor speech disorders, AAC and dysphagia.
A key area of Joanne’s specialist practice is mental capacity. She has significant experience in capacity assessment and best‑interests decision‑making, and has previously worked as a mental capacity consultant supporting legal decisions. She is skilled in navigating ethically complex situations and ensuring that individuals are supported to participate meaningfully in decisions about their care wherever possible.
Alongside her clinical work, Joanne has held a number of leadership roles, leading service improvement initiatives and delivering training to multidisciplinary teams to build confidence and capability in managing complex communication, swallowing, and capacity issues.
Joanne is passionate about person‑centred, holistic rehabilitation. She works collaboratively with clients, families, and teams to maximise independence, participation, and quality of life in relation to communication, eating, and drinking.
Outside of work, Joanne enjoys skiing, swimming, cooking, and spending time with her family.
