The ARC-EX® System is a non-invasive spinal cord stimulation technology developed by ONWARD Medical. It delivers gentle electrical stimulation through electrodes placed over the neck to activate the spinal cord, with the aim of supporting arm and hand recovery in people living with incomplete spinal cord injury.
At STEPS Rehabilitation, ARC-EX® is used alongside high-intensity, task-specific therapy within residential programmes. Sessions focus on improving functional movement, hand control and meaningful everyday activities.
The technology is supported by emerging clinical evidence showing improvements in grip strength, coordination, upper limb function and everyday task performance. It may also support progress in people with chronic spinal cord injuries when used consistently as part of goal-led rehabilitation.
As part of STEPS’ wider rehabilitation technology offer, ARC-EX® provides clinicians with another tool to support upper limb recovery, monitor progress and help clients work towards greater independence.
