STEPS is such a special place, the staff and the facility are just amazing and it has done so much for me. It has almost reprogrammed me and changed the way I now think about myself. I never used to want to use my wheelchair and now I feel ok to use it and it doesn’t mean I am not independent. The environment at STEPS is very comfortable and calm. It’s busy but calm and relaxed at the same time.
Working with the physiotherapists I have learnt more about myself and what I can do and I now know I can do so much more than I thought I could do!
I have had 4 weeks at STEPS with time at home in between each week and each time I go home everyone notices how much more confident and positive I am and how I have got my spark back for the first time in 4 years.
I have found mixing all the other clients really helpful and the atmosphere is always so positive.
The STEPS Blatchford partnership works really well, you are likeminded people. The speed that Blatchford made my new leg was very impressive. Bill took me for a bike ride and walking into the Peaks with my new leg. I couldn’t have done any of that with my old prosthetic leg. My new leg is an Élan and it is a total game changer for me. It is such a good fit, so comfortable and I can even feel stones underfoot now.
I went bouldering with Scott for one of my physiotherapy session, it was the 4 year anniversary of my accident and it was quite emotional to do something I hadn’t done for years and I was actually quite good at it!
The environment at STEPS is just as key as the therapy and there is such a good vibe it has made me an optimist now and before I came here I would say I was a very pessimistic person.
