The last 12 months have seen an unprecedented amount of disruption for everyone, and we, like many others have had to alter the way we provide our services in 2020.
Due to the dedication of our team, the understanding of our clients and the very generous gifts from many people, we have been able to continue to provide specialist rehabilitation to our clients with minimal disruption. It has looked a little different at times, but we are delighted that even during lockdown we were (and still are!) able to take new admissions.
So, from raising money for AvMA at our inaugural Sheffield Curry Night, to recognition at awards and the personal achievements of our clients, we look back at 2020!
Back in February, when meals out, in restaurants (!), with friends (!!) was allowed, we hosted the very first Sheffield Curry Night to raise funds for AvMA. Guests enjoyed a three-course meal courtesy of the Mogul Room, Sheffield and an incredible £1,260 was raised for AvMA.
March got off to a great start, with CQC inspectors awarding a GOOD rating across all 5 assessment areas and commenting that “...people receive a truly person-centric service.”
As news of the lockdown broke, we, like everyone else made operational changes to allow us to continue to continue to deliver rehabilitation therapies and medical treatment to our clients.
Changes included the delivery of therapies in client’s bedrooms, with gym equipment relocated to bedrooms from our specialist gym. We also introduced virtual sessions with external professionals, which include psychology sessions, GP visits and Chroma Neurologic music sessions. We also recruited 3 new physio’s, 3 therapy assistants, two well-being staff and an occupational therapist to allow us to deliver the same quantity and standard of therapy to our clients.
We were also delighted to receive so many generous gifts from colleagues and friends, that certainly helped to boost morale of the staff and clients at STEPS.

Webinars
Like everyone, we have swiftly learnt and started to appreciate the benefits of virtual webinars (although we are very much looking forward to seeing everyone in person as soon as we are allowed!)
In August, we jointly hosted the webinar ‘Traumatic Injury Amputations: the medical and legal journey from accident to elective amputation, rehabilitation and beyond’ with Pace Rehabilitation and Stewarts Law. We also sent a bespoke gift to the first 100 sign-ups, which were a huge success!
Following on from the success of the webinar, we hosted ‘Getting Clients Home’ at the end of August. This webinar brought together a panel of highly respected legal, rehabilitation and architectural experts who discussed the importance of adopting a collaborative approach to getting client’s home.
We also joined Stewarts Law in September as special guest speakers to discuss ‘Overcoming challenges within a rehabilitation setting during lockdown and beyond’.
Awards Season
We were delighted to win ‘Rehabilitation Initiative of the Year’ at the Insurance Post Claims & Fraud Awards, which shines a spotlight on the companies, teams and individuals who have gone above and beyond the point of call to offer exceptional services and results over the past 12-18 months.
We were also finalists for ‘Rehab Provider of the Year’ at the Personal Injury Awards.

We had some wonderful happy news this year!
Our head of therapies, Lucy and physiotherapist Jamie have both welcome baby boys this year and Amalee our lead OT and Charlie our Kitchen assistant have both had baby girls!
